Morton, The Steakhouse

1050 Connecticut Ave Washington, DC 20036
This restaurant has a heated outdoor deck that overlooks Connecticut Avenue. The cigar selection is limited but includes the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story and the Ashton VSG Sorcerer, cigar standards. Nearly half of the menu is composed of Paul Garmirians (a line of mild Dominican cigars from a Northern Virginia tobacconist). Most smokers bring their own sticks. The bar has an excellent cognac selection, including a $195 glass of the rare Remy Martin Louis XIII.

Shelly’s Back Room

1331 F St NW, Washington, DC 20004
In D.C. cigar circles, Shelly’s is a legend. Its sterling cigar collection includes more than 80 varieties, and the bar offers more than 50 Scotches. The downside with Shelly’s, though, is that everyone knows it. Around 9 p.m. it can get crowded and so loud that conversation is difficult. But at 6 on any night, it is a pleasant place to read, chat or enjoy a decent smoke in quietude.

Civil Cigar Lounge

5335 Wisconsin Ave NW #200
Formal attire, a corporate crowd, but you can feel comfortable in jeans, shirt shoes……one of my favorites because it’s the quietest and just a nice vibe. Has a bar & light menu.

Ozio Restaurant & Lounge

1813 M St NW, Washington, DC 20036
Ozio is a D.C. standard. While things can get crowded on weekends, during the week it is a subdued establishment, with jazz and soft rock pouring over the sound system. Handpainted portraits of lumunaries, such as Humphrey Bogart, Sophia Loren and Winston Churchill (of course!), adorn the clay-hued walls and lend extra personality. The walk-in humidor includes Camacho Connecticuts and Padron Anniversaries.

W. Curtis Draper

699 15th St NW, Washington, DC 20229
A high-end tobacco shop near the White House and Bobby Van’s Steakhouse, it’s big on pipes which we don’t care much about and has a good humidor with a wide selection of cigars.  The store looks more like a boutique than a smoke shop, but I guess that’s what attracts the rich old pipe smokers.  They have the classic big leather chairs to smoke and the staff we dealt with were all nice and knowledgeable.

Aphelion Cigar Lounge

2510 Conway Rd, Gambrills, MD 21054
In addition to the Basin Street Lounge, Two Nineteen Restaurant has a bar in the basement. With a brick interior, wood stools and business cards tacked to every pinnable surface, it has the charm of a Bourbon Street hole in the wall. The beer selection is limited and the bar has no humidor, but cigars can be purchased upstairs or at the smoke shop next door.

Chesapeake Cigar & Tobacco Company

135 Mitchells Chance Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037
The cigar lounge is an inviting place, a sanctuary where people go to relax and enjoy a fine cigar.  My cigar experience began when I visited the new cigar shop next to my place of work.  Although my cigar knowledge was limited at the time, I was drawn to the culture and relaxing atmosphere.
